At The Assembly Room, we believe in the power of storytelling, shared history, and creative experiences to bridge divides and build a more connected world. Salsa Across Borders is more than a festival—it is a cultural collaboration designed to break down the invisible barriers that too often separate our communities. Through music, dance, history, and joy, this event invites us to recognize how deeply our cultures are interwoven, and to celebrate the richness that emerges when we move together.
Born from the desire to bridge the Black and Brown communities of Cleveland and beyond, Salsa Across Borders brings to the forefront the powerful influence of Afro-Caribbean rhythms and their undeniable imprint on global music and dance. It is an invitation to explore our shared roots, honor our differences, and most importantly, connect.
Held at the iconic Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, this day-long, family-friendly experience features:

A high-energy salsa dance competition with prizes, trophies, and a chance to perform at the Rock Hall’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebration

Social dancing and DJ sets to close the evening with movement and joy

Discover the Pulse – Learn how to hear the layers of salsa music—from the clave to the cowbell—and understand how rhythm, melody, and instruments come together to move your soul. (Ages 5+)

Express the Beat – Learn how to translate what you hear into movement! Explore how your body becomes an instrument, responding to tempo, mood, and rhythm with style and confidence. (Ages 5+)

Instrument Making – Get creative and hands-on! Paint your own maracas, then shake them to the rhythm of the drums. (Ages 5+)

Beginner Salsa Lesson – Step into the rhythm! Learn the basics of salsa in a fun, welcoming class for all ages—no experience needed. (Ages 5+)

Please note: Workshops are designed for children ages 5 and up.
Children under 5 are welcome to enjoy their own creative corner, featuring coloring pages, crayons, markers, and fun plastic instruments to help them experience the joy of the day in their own way!
